CRWE Seeks Assistant Conductor
The Charles River Wind Ensemble (“CRWE”) seeks an Assistant Conductor beginning with the 2026-2027 season. The Assistant Conductor will serve as an assistant and cover conductor for Artistic Director Matthew Marsit. They will be invited to conduct at least one piece during each concert in addition to performing as an ensemble musician for the remaining pieces. They will also be responsible for other coaching and conducting duties as needed. The Assistant Conductor will receive a stipend for their conducting duties.
The Charles River Wind Ensemble is the premiere community wind ensemble of the Greater Boston metropolitan area dedicated to the performance of classical and contemporary repertoire originally conceived for winds and percussion. Located in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, CRWE holds four concerts a year and rehearses on Tuesday evenings throughout the academic year. Our members are chosen through selective audition and represent a wide variety of professions, backgrounds and ages.

Substitute Players
The Charles River Wind Ensemble maintains a roster of substitute players for all instruments. These players are invited to fill in when regular members are unavailable, and can fill in anywhere from one rehearsal to an entire concert cycle. Call players are also generally the first in line to join as regular members of the Charles River Wind Ensemble.

Auditions
Auditions are conducted with the Music Director of the ensemble, and scheduled regularly.
For CRWE auditions, candidates are asked to prepare two contrasting samples that best represent their current abilities as a performer. In addition to these prepared works, players will be asked to sight-read a selection provided by the Music Director. Percussionists will be asked to perform a sample of their abilities on a number of instruments (battery, keyboard and timpani).
